Paging Biggerhammer about 243 LBC
« on: March 08, 2017, 03:41:38 PM »
Biggerhammer, if you see this - I've been researching the 243 LBC lately, and saw some of your posts about it on a couple different forums. Now that you've had one for a while, do you have any thoughts or suggestions in hindsight about this round?

I'm thinking of a 20-24" BHW barrel, probably standard profile as I'd like to keep the rifle ~10 lb or so, not committed on a barrel length yet but will probably start longer and can always shorten in my lathe if needed. Suggestions there are welcome. Looks like I can use 6 PPC dies backed off. Suggestions on brass sources? I know Lapua is best quality but $$; I don't mind neck turning but don't want to waste components on soft brass like I've encountered with some Nosler 6.8.

Suggestions from others using this round are welcome too.

Thanks!

Sorry for hijacking this thread and bringing it back from the dead. I have recently been really interested in the 243 lbc round. I have been able to locate barrels for my build but I have not been able to locate a source for dies. I'd like to get the dies before I start my build.  Can anyone point me in right direction?

You can use 6mm PPC dies, which is what I'm doing. Lots of options out there.

I ended up going with a 24" 243 LBC barrel direct from BHW (Columbia River Arms) and would do it again, I'm happy with it.

Isnt the 6mm PPC shorter then the 243 LBC ? How does 6mm PPC die work for a 243 LBC? Sorry for asking I'm a noob at reloading.

Yes, he is.  :chuckle:

He'll be back around May but I'm still in contact with him if you need to get a hold of him.

Yes, it's ~ .070" shorter. You have to set the dies accordingly.

Honestly if you're still new to reloading, a wildcat like this is probably not a good idea for you. Start off with a common cartridge that has a lot of info available to help you. I could never recommend someone learn reloading on a wildcat with very minimal load data available, you really need some more experience under your belt to get everything right and do it safely.
