What Browning Buckmark to get?
« on: March 10, 2017, 09:37:08 AM »
As I research the browning buckmark line....there seems to be many many models.  What are the major differneces?  I would primarily use it as a plinker / grouse gun with open sites.  Any models more accurate than others?  Any models to stay clear of?  Any model anyone reccomends?

The rifle buckmark is pretty cool....just not overly practical for what I want.

Thanks

They are all good, most of the differences are just different barrel configurations. The Camper is the basic 5.5" model, and prices go up from there.

There are two grip frames though; one uses two piece plastic or wood grips, and the other (URX frame IIRC) uses wraparound rubber grips with finger grooves. They are not interchangeable, so make sure you get the one you want. Mine has the wraparound rubber grip; it's very comfortable in my hands.

I have the stainless camper.  It is more accurate than I can shoot, and hasn't malfunctioned in the 5 or 6 years I have owned it.    Great pistol.

I bought a slab side model in stainless about 8yrs ago. It is the most accurate handgun i have ever shot. Trigger is amazing compared to Ruger and sights are completely adjustable. I use to "warm up" with it before .22 ammo went the way of the Dodo.

The best part is most of the barrels are interchangeable so off with the slab side and on with a tactical solutions.

I've had a few campers and the Target model.  You can't go wrong with the camper model.  I have used the campers from grouse to competition, they are great pistols.  They like to be to run wet and you may find a mag every now and then it doesn't like (toss it if you find one).

So many sexy Buckmarks!
If I had to choose one, it would the 7 1/4" Lite model.
I had a Tactical Solutions 7.25 on my Buckmark and it balanced perfectly.
You might get a few extra fps from the extra barrel length.
I also really like the Rosewood grip models with blue barrel and receivers.
Too many choices!

I'm in this same boat. They have so many choices. I like the urx grip and the wood grip. I like the contour because it has the top rail, but then they don't put a fiber optic front sight on it.

I'm think I get the least expensive that had the urx grip and get a Tactical Solutions 5.5 barrel and combo rail that has the rear sight in it.  :dunno:

That's pretty much what I did - stainless Camper model with the URX grip and fiber optic front sight, then installed the TacSol top rail/sight and 5.5" barrel. I went back to the factory barrel though, as it was more accurate than the Tactical Solutions.

I would recommend a threaded barrel whichever model you choose

I recommend a threaded barrel too, but wouldn't spend more than $75-$100 extra for one; that's what it'll cost you to have a Camper barrel threaded.

Barrel length is important for threaded barrels too; if you want to use it suppressed with bulk ammo you'll want the barrel shortened to 4" anyway, no point in buying a longer threaded barrel and being limited to only subsonic ammo suppressed.
