Each year the season gets one day longer due to calendar date adjustments matching a Saturday opening. So after seven years of the season getting a day longer each year they take a week off and the process starts all over. Considering the population is low due to the blue tongue I think that (even though it's incidental) it's good timing for the deer to recover.

look at past years pamphlets and you will see season gets a day earlier each year and then about every seven years they have to back it up a week and the process starts over

Same thing happens with youth turkey, it's the first weekend in April, this year it was April 1-2, next year it should kick back to Apr 7-8.
