Strange track on new boat
« on: April 22, 2017, 08:27:28 AM »
Just picked up a new boat that has a welded in track running the full length of the transom.  It isn't Traxtek or Scotty.  Dealer wants $90 per rod holder.  I just need an adapter to my Scottys.

Anyone ever see this or know who makes it?  On the inside, there is a groove on the inboard side, but the outboard side is smooth.

Looks like a good place to put a couple $3 stainless bolts through.

:yeah:

I get really annoyed with the "proprietary $ystems" like these that dealers see as a way of squeezing more cash out of a transaction without providing any additional value.

It almost looks like solid uni-strut? If so, you could probably buy whatever hardware you need pretty cheap.

Yeah, unfortunately it isn't unistrut, smaller and only a groove on one side.

I searched everywhere online and can't figure it out.  This looks close, but they don't mention the brand and it looks like it probably has grooves on both sides.

I might just have the local guy weld a piece of flat stock over the top so I can have a nice 4-6" flat surface to work with.

I just noticed there is a channel on the underside that also has one groove in it.  So, it looks like something is made to attach to it in a C-clamp sort of configuration.  Still nothing on Google except wonderment that they didn't use one of the well known systems.

I did, they referred me to the dealer who wants $90 for a single rod holder.

If it were me I think I would go with your idea of just welding something up.

Go to the dealer and get one of the rod holders in hand,. Look for a brand name etc, might help you narrow down what exactly you are working with.

Tried that too, they are special order, not in stock.

I actually ended up keeping the transom clear and mounted everything on the rails which ended up working much better.  So, in a way it was a blessing in disguise as it forced me to look at it differently instead of just rigging it like my last boat.  The new way keeps everything totally out of the way while running or fishing.

Is this a Riverhawk boat? If so I just purchased one myself and dealer told me the mount was out of stock also. I emailed RH boats out of Oregon and they said they have them in stock at factory and have them specially made for that rail. I was told by dealer $85 a pair but haven't bit the bullet yet. The attached pics are what factory emailed me but these are shown on a side rail of an open boat. I was told it was same rail though.

That's it, thanks.  Other than that, I couldn't be happier with the boat.

Same with me, love the boat. I ended up with a 18' Seahawk and put a 115 Yamaha.
