« on: May 05, 2017, 08:18:59 PM »
Anybody fiidle around with these in a .270 winchester, love them in my .280AI and just picked some up to give them a go in the .270 win.  Looking to use viht n560 or imr 4831 since I have plenty on hand.

I've been toying the idea myself.  I'm going to tag along to see what people say.  Were you able to shoot anything  with your 280?  Curious what real life results are.

I shot an elk at a little over 450 this year with the 162 eldx, at that velocity it seemed to work quite well.  (Lung shot).  I think close quarters at high velocity they still will blow massive holes and lots of meat damage like the old amaxs.  Hard to have controlled expansion at high velocity and expect any expansion on lower, longer range velocities with any bullet I feel.  Have heard great consistant stories on many animals and also horror stories, but i feel that any bullet out there has two sides.

Well loaded up a few groups of rounds to see how hot i could run them before I hit pressure,  my max load i had loaded really tightened up, idk if it finally pushed them hard enough to really stabilize them until then.  (Well above book max so wont put my load on here).  Id guess running right near 3000fps.  Ill load some more up and see if I can duplicate the results.  3 shot group pictured.

What powder are you loading with?  That is a heck of a group.

Just imr 4831, ill play with the seating depth a little and see what happens.  Was 15 thou off the lands.  Probably move them to about ten thou and see what happens.

I just picked up a Remington Ti in .270. Planning on trying the ELD X in it with RL 26. Heard really good things about RL 26 with the .270. Might be worth a shot in yours also.

Regards, Branden

Ive heard good things about rl26 also, viht 560 is my favorite for the other .270s i run, but since this is basically just a truck gun wanted something a little cheaper and have 5 or 6 pounds sitting around.  Try that 560 it is expensive but good stuff and temp stable with good velo.  Think im pushing the 150 berger at 3075-3100.

I'm working a load right now with Reloder 26.....so far so good.  Results currently show that max charge provides better groups.  Still working it but will post results when I finish.
