Still looking for the first bird
« on: May 12, 2017, 04:06:33 PM »
Hello fellow WA hunters.

After trying to turkeys for the last 4 years, my brother and I still have yet to nab a Tom (and not for lack of trying, we are really good and finding hens though, ha!) We will be going out next weekend to camp/hunt in the Klickitat area near Goldendale and would love any tips or public areas to check out. We have tried public lands up near Colville/Spokane for the last few seasons and come home empty handed so we figured we would give the Klickitat a try.

Thanks very much your tips/advice.

Best,

Chris

I would stick with the Spokane/Colville plan.. can't get any better than that. If you're having problems in those areas, other options are not going to be any better.

I'd keep grinding in the NE. Definitely your best chance.  Maybe mix things up and head to a different area than you have already been hunting or try adjusting your approach. Sometimes changing things a little bit can change the outcome too. Good luck, hope you get it done!

Been out klickatat/golden dale since Thursday night scouting for birds for a friend.   We didn't even find a bird on public land.  I only seen 6 birds totally in 2 full days being out in the woods

Start working on your land ownership skills. It's not easy for everyone, but you will make some good friends and really increase your opportunities.

I agree with others, colville area is great, 9 years now, we tag out every year. Try other areas by colville, this year we had to find other areas too, but once we found them it was on.
