Good for you getting this guy on camera, and I think it's well worth the time setting up some a hole if he's going to f with your stuff!  Who gives to rats azz if he sets up cameras to catch a theif!!!!   Catching a thief is the point here, not why did you take the time to set someone up??????!!!!!   Damn!

I agree. Gives some perspective on the ethics of people on the site who are supposedly "one of us"

Maybe some guilty consciences lurking around here.. I could care less how or why you have a picture of a thief.  Hope karma swings through...

Motive for these guys???

Don't know the details...maybe the guy dug out and ditched to create a wallow 5 years ago and has been baiting and salting every year since with well hidden cam and now a new guy shows up and puts cams on the wallow he created. Pissed he doesnt know what to do so bloggers suggest he cut em down.

Whatz the motive otherwise? $20 pawnshop cash for camera? Can't see for dude in camo but maybe?

Funny how that sounds just as possible as anything else.

Not sure if this is public or private land but if its not private then you really don't have a argument other than "I hate thieves".   Seems like you went out of your way to lay a trap to catch someone, what was the motivation?

No blaming the victim. Theft is theft. Taking someone else's property that a reasonable person would assume would be reclaimed by the owner at some point, even on public land, is theft.

Ethics is up to the perpetrator individual, and none of any body else's business, according to quite a few folks on this site.

You mean you can't just go hop in and take that brand new rig parked at the trailhead during hunting season?

Trail Camera thieves are scum!   Not only do they steal a camera, but all the work it represents.  I can't stand thieves!!!  Sadly many hunters will do about anything if they have no fear of getting caught.    :bash:

Says who? Abandoned property isn't it? Unless it is on private land its fair game

Not true, Abandoned means left on purpose with no intent of recovery. Doesn't matter where it is. A game camera is surely not that. I learned that in Business law class. Even if lost, with out intent to abandon the property it still belongs to the rightful owner.
I watched a gal get arrested at a restaurant for taking a girls phone that she had left in the bathroom by mistake. She went to retrieve it-Gone. Cops were called. My wife knew who had picked it up and told the cops. The gal tried to hide it but was arrested for theft and hauled off.
Some one drops a wallet, or leaves it at the checkout counter, next customer picks it up and leaves, Did they steel it ?

No one yet has an idea for motive? If its a hunter its probably not for pawn shop money? Or is it?   Maybe guy hates cameras on public land?   Or maybe just on his spots?   No one on this post has suggested there is any reason to justify theft I'm just wondering why would anyone want to steal a cheap game cam?
