This tax will affect online purchases of hunting and fishing supplies, as well as anything else we purchase on the internet. Conservatives are supposed to support smaller government and lower taxes. This bill should go down in flames. Here's my quick email to my reps. and senator:

"Hi Lynda, Paul, and Vicki,

Please oppose this tax on internet purchases. My family is already saddled with enormous healthcare expense because of the unfair and so-called Affordable Care Act, and are currently in a negative cash flow situation, as a result. We literally can't afford to shoulder additional burdens.

We Republicans are the party of smaller government and lower taxes. I request that you affirm to me your support of our party's mandate by opposing this tax. I respectfully request the courtesy of your thoughtful replies. Thanks so much for your continued service to our district.

Sincerely,
Pianoman

Thanks. I got that email, but the link won't allow you to write your own email. For those of you who want to write your own, here's the link to contact your reps and senator: http://app.leg.wa.gov/DistrictFinder/

The bill is at least for 2017 dead. It was voted out of committee on April 4th and hasn't gone any further. In order for it to move on it would need a vote in the full House, public hearing in the Senate, pass by a Republican controlled Senate committee, then pass the Republican controlled Senate.

It's good to know where our reps stand in case it rears its ugly head again.

"John,

Thanks for reaching out. I am familiar with and opposed to this legislation. I agree it will hurt businesses in our state and make items more costly online. We need to be doing more to facilitate new business and growth in our region and state, not make it more difficult for them.

SHB 2186 which is the bill this legislation is included in, is essentially an "omnibus tax bill" in my opinion. I'm opposed to the entire bill.

I don't believe we need new taxes. It's a matter of prioritization and spending our funds as efficiently and effectively as possible.

Best,
Vicki

The republicans in the senate are trying to hold the line on tax increases. Their solution to getting a budget deal done that satisfies the court ordered education funding is a levy swap that balances property tax burdens throughout the state and increases revenue at the same time. The democrats just want to raise taxes and won't accept the republicans solution. Inslee threatened the legislature with a government shutdown if they don't get the budget set by June 30th. There may be some negotiating that could bring the Internet tax back into play. We will see. In my opinion the democrat legislators are incompetent buffoons.

The state government shuts down when they haven't passed a budget when the new fiscal year starts. Doesn't matter who's in the governor's office.

I think he could give them another extra session to work on the budget deal.

They'll get as many special sessions as they want. But state law says come July 1 if there's no budget then the state government shuts down.

I guess if Inslee has his way they won't get another special session.

It looks like part of the budget deal included sales tax on internet sales. Our online purchases just got more expensive. That is if you were not voluntarily sending in the use tax to the state when you purchased something from out of state. I wonder how often that happens.
