With the publicity and shame that the Whitefoot's bring to the tribe most tribal members don't bring any antlers to the show most don't care what they score I don't I have never taken anything to the show I have never had anything scored, (I have and would kill a trophy again if I had a chance it would be bigger than the low 300s) I have seen some big boys come off the rez. The big rez buck was at the show last year just not at the antler display.

I like that, Yak. Great perspective. Tribal member or non-tribal member, I think not caring about the score is one of the best philosophies to have. Granted I can get caught up in the score talk too. Like most though, I don't hunt for the score. Oh and the Whitefoot bulls this year at the show, classic, hair burned off the skulls. But I don't want to talk about that because on this site it always gets negative. Still cannot get over that buck. Tell your buddy congrats x 1000.

i tell you what im not holding my breath for a 300" deer off the rez, if tribal members dont care the scores of the deer they shoot then why kill bucks? why not hunt for meat and shoot does or young bucks that would taste much better?

Most tribal members would be happy harvesting anything doe or buck same with non tribal but there are many that have read all the hype of big horns and big scores I read many hunting magazines and I don't see much that talk about doe's being harvested  people are competitive it is natural, the way all the articles read bigger is better you cant help but to fall into the circle, I am also at fault for this I would not pass a true trophy. It may not be morally correct but sadly  hunting and fishing has turned into some what of a egotistical sport.

Jake, should that philosophy carry over to nontribal members too? If you don't care about scores, only hunt does? I think we all have an innate fascination with antlers. Killing bucks and not caring about the score are two different things. I don't really care about scores as all of my bucks aren't big at all, but that doesn't mean I should just go hunt only does. I like hunting bucks, I like antlers. Something about headgear gets at us.

I noticed that a post I made earlier didn't come through the way that I meant it (I accidentally typed it in the middle of the quote I was referring to.
I know the rez has a lot of big bucks, and there is a reason for that.  A lot of it has to do with the high buck to doe ratios on the rez.  My stepdad was a Spokane and he killed some real bruisers there because he got off the roads and hunted hard.  He said that there were such big bucks there because most people hunted the roads and killed a lot of does and yearlings.  Basically more opportunity for deer to get into the older age classes if they were smart enough to find a hidey-hole off the roads.  I think there is some unintentional trophy management of the rez herds.  Killing all those does leaves healthy buck-to-doe ratios...

I need to send an apology out for my priviest comments to the Whitefoot's they have some good people and ethical hunters in the family I combined them into the same, as some are doing with tribal members.

i sure hope he did a head mount on that thing and not just a European. that deer deserves a proper mount, not knocking euro mounts but a deer like that....
