IMO these National Monument designations serve only to restrict hunters, trappers and fisherman.
Think about it. Is the Federal government buying lands to create these Monuments? No, this was all land owned by the Feds and open for your use. All they are doing is creating roadblocks to us using these lands either through outright bans on hunting or more commonly by restricting access.
How much land has effectively been closed off through road closures or wilderness designations that make trail maintenance difficult compared to things like that copper mine that was mentioned?
I'll take multiple use over protectionism.
