Oil sample testing!

I do this.  I use Blackstone lab.  Runs about $25-30 depending on who.  They can tell ya everything about the health of your engine.  For Diesel guys I highly recommend this.  Injector issues, etc they will tell ya long before its noticed by you.  I do it every so often.  Also they can tell ya if your oil is still good, for example my last cummins had a change interval of 10k.  I thought wow that cant be good.  I sent sample in at about 9500k miles on oil.  They told me oil was stoll great and all additives were still present.  Could run longer if I chooses.  How many of you do this??  It can also be used for lawn mowers, generators, wifes car, etc.  I am doing it now on my new used truck so I thought of this to share.  I highly suggest it!!!

Interesting, usually change the power stroke at 5k. Diesel oil change is abit more money than a gas rig. I'll have to check this out abit more. Thanks.

We do oil sample testing on large process chiller compressors and such. Cheap insurance to see what may be prematurely wearing out on the inside.

I see there are many different companies that do oil sample testing, is one any better than the other???

Was thinking of ordering a Blackstone Labs test kit, are they all about the same or ?

When I had my performance engine shop we used Blackstone Labs as well. very happy with them.

Most major heavy equipment brands offer fluid testing. We'll periodically get a request from customers to perform these fluid tests on equipment they are looking to purchase. It's like getting blood/urine tests at the docs, it'll give you some insite of what's possibly in your future.

No I have not sampled the wifes car.  Its a minivan, I don't care if it blows!   No its been a good rig so far, miles are creeping up so I am going to do it in the near future.  If somethings is a miss we will trade it in long before it lets loose.  If a gvuy is considering buying an ol truck, muscle car, heavy equip and can sample test it first that is a very wise move.  I'm sharing my strategy to others to help make better purchases and not get screwed.  With diesel trucks injectors can start to leak fuel into engine and most times its very small at first.  Testing will let ya know before you lose a piston or sumthing.  Also give ya time to save the big $ for new (buy only new BOSCH) injectors$$$$!  Don't let your dealer put in new remans either.

I do this on my gas vehicles to.  Was changing my oil at 7.5K but have extended it out to 10K after the test said oil had plenty of life left.

FWIW, Blackstone Labs will send you the test kit for free and charge you after they receive your sample.  I'm due to change oil in my 13 Tacoma so I ordered a test kit today.  I've been running Royal Purple full syn. in it for the last two years.  Guess I'll find out how good that stuff really is.

I just got married last month so, its already harder to get under the hood. I might have to break out the Armor All.

we do it all the time at work, have saved a few engines by catching problems early, it never hurts to know whats going on inside an engine, the tests get it all. I forget which lab we use, but we just send off the oil, and a few days later my boss gets the results sent to his phone. im about to put my jeep under the knife, I run mobil one full synthetic with a zinc additive, so, its a really good slippery oil with extra protection for the cam, but, im at 115k miles, and, there is no excuse not to sample your oil, it will detect everything from a ring going bad, to a head gasket starting to fail, the tests detect copper carbon soot, any metal particulates, any fluids, its the easiest and cheapest way to know exactly what is going on inside, and what condition your engine is in

I just got my first sample back from Blackstone on my deleted 6.7 Cummins.  I always change at 5K because I am OCD about my truck but they said everything looked fantastic so try 7K OCI and see how it responds. 130K on the motor

Just got the test results back from Blaskstone on my wife's car.  I use Royal Purple Full Syn in her car and go 15K before I change it.  They said all looked good and to keep doing 15K on my oil change intervals.

Mine came back and they said it was very good.  The Amsoil dual filter is working extremely well and oil is holding up better than advertised and the motor is in very good condition based on wear of 54k.  Little to no soot particles present in oil which is WOW in these year Cummins.

Don't be I had my Toyota checked at 300K and from their analysis motor was in great shape.
