A lot of the deer there are more blacktail/mulie hybrids.  If you compare them to true coastal blacktails don't quite line up.  Same if you compare to true mule deer from eastern Washington.  That 3 point rack is pretty typical of the bucks there.  I consider that a transitional zone from blackies and mulies.  Once the horns grow a bit more and harden off it will not look like a white tail.  The throat white patch is another clue.

A shot of the tail would go a long way in identifying the animal.  The first pic looks like classic whitetail antlers, subsequent photos look like muley.  The portion of the tail that can be seen in the final photo looks like textbook mule deer, huh?

Muley.  It's a little tough to differentiate by antlers at that stage, but the ears are a dead give-away.

Coloration is pretty light for a mule deer for sure, but color is a silly way of differentiating between deer as there's so much natural variation.

first picture is a whitetail that rack is 100% whitetail buck. I did shoot a cross in eastern Montana that had a perfect whitetail rack and a muley body. Either way everything about the first pic says whitetail

You can't just go by the antlers, there is such thing as 3 point mule deer too.

:yeah:

the first picture I would call the right side a 5 point?  I count eye guards on whitetails but not mule deer and that is a whitetail. I have shot and seen 3 point mule deer not sure of your point there.
