Montana backpack hunting

Have a general tag, in very good shape and backpack hunt WA regularly. Looking for suggestions on wilderness areas in Montana for a November mule deer hunt. A private land opportunity I was hoping for didn't work out but it's all good. Any suggestions would be much appreciated to start with. Just getting started on research

Try this;

Drive to Ovando which is on Hiway 200 a couple hours NE of Missoula.
Stop at Trixies Tavern, neat place, and get a burger.
Then drive 10 miles NE along the Cooper/Blackfoot Road to a camping type area with a bunch of horse pens.
Spend the night there and then head up the FS trail along the N.F. Blackfoot about 6-7 miles.
There an old FS cabin there.
This is by a wider basin where we saw quite a few decent bucks 10 years ago.
We saw more deer to the left (North).
There was an unused oufitters camp to the northeast of the cabin about 1.5 miles so I imigine it got a little pressure.
This late in the year I think that the deer are moving down so it would be a transitional population of deer.

I can't imagine things have changed that much for deer.
We were after elk so we passed on the bucks.

We didn't shoot any elk on that trip.
We did shoot some nice bucks east of Great Falls later on the same trip.
We hunted deer out of Stanford with some locals we know.

Not sure Id want to backpack into any wilderness areas in November in Montana.  BRRRRRRrrrrrrrrrr  If you do, that's hardcore and very cool.

We're doing a Drop Camp west of Augusta, Montana starting November 19th and running till the 29TH.
Deer and Elk Combo, should be fun and I imagine colder that hell.
The outfitter will be checking on us every few days and packing out any meat.

Do you remember if there was a specific trailhead name or name of the cabin or a lake nearby? Sounds legit! Not as far of a drive either as going way east. I'm thinking about taking a hike in late August to find an area that looks promising. Don't expect anything major just want to fill this tag and have a good time

What/who are the Davis'?
As for a trail name, l will try to look it up.
You can see the horse corral's in Google Earth.
The trail follows the river up stream.
