We had cougar tracks on the south side of St helens two weekends ago... Usually we are shoeing the East side and see a ton of cougar tracks, but this fall the rainstorm blew out the roads going in....havent hit it hard this year...  good luck.

Make sure they are real cotton balls and not the synthetic ones, probably one of the best firestarters out there...err except for Icemans firestarters.  :)

Great photos, thanks for sharing.

cotton balls and vaseline work great as a fire starter. Have been carrying with me for over 30 years in my emergency kit when I hunt and fish. I first learned about using them in Boy Scouts. I carry them in 35 mm film canisters

A little emergency flint and steel or a metal match will light up those cotton ball w/vaseline quickly.  Just remember when you make your cotton balls only apply a little vaseline...as a little goes a long ways.  Use too much and they won't easily light.  Also fluff them up a little before you light them. They'll keep for years in a ziplock back or film canister.

film cannister, pill bottles, all work great for carrying them.  Then when your lips get chapped, take a little dab.

I've never tried these. Sounds easy enough. Good evening project. What I've made for years and have had great luck with are easy too, but take longer. I take an empty egg crate that they come in at the store and fill the cavities two thirds full with smoke chips and / dryer lint. Then I melt parafin in an large cleaned out soup can and pour it over the tinder. Cover it good, don't skimp. I also clamp a pair of vise grips on edge of can for a handle and use oven mits while I'am pouring. Be careful, that's stuff is hot... They light real easy and I've timed how long they will burn, which is about 15 min. Try it. I'am going to try the cotton balls.
Can't we all just get along?
