Day 1 - Senior pheasant hunt
« on: September 25, 2017, 01:53:31 PM »
One pheasant fired at - one dead pheasant. 5.31 miles walked.  One tired senior in need of a shower and shave.  One tireder even yet dog.

Dude, you need a better dog. Went to Chopaka Bill for two days this past Fri and Sat and then Blue lake on Sun and Green lake on Mon. I wish I was as good as a fly fisherman as you are. Shot one grouse off the road and my butt head Brittany flushed a bunch for me. Lots of grouse up that way this year.

Others there had similar results.   Today's my wife's 65th birthday so I stayed home to attend to that.   Tomorrow morning the wild dog and I are out sporting again.  This time I'm prepared to get my feet damp.

May try it for the last day on Fri. Seems pheasants are very scarce in WA now. You be seeing Quail around your parts?

Probably got up 10 grouse or so in one small area I've never hunted. I did manage to catch 6 big bows in Chopaka and 7 in Blue lake and 26 trout, mainly smaller ones in Green lake. Lindsey struggled but caught a few in Chop and Blue and 9 in green.
I drew may second choice antelope tag in WY and shot a nice 14 1/4 inch buck and a doe on some private ground back in Aug I was able to get on. I took a guy from work on the HH and he shot a small bear, thank god, in a real hell hole. We had to pack it 9 mi to the rig. I could have shot one while he was stalking his but I would have blow his stalk, good thing I didn't shoot.

Day 3 of the season, day 2 of the old guy hoofing it around.   Where the heck have all the birds gone in the Gloyd Seeps?  They must have flown off to an area less traveled.   I saw one bird running down the "road".  I use the term "road" loosely as it was a path I was walking down.  It ran into the cat-tails.  My dog had a problem earlier in the day finding birds.  I didn't know if she was smelling areas where other dogs peed or if birds were previously in those spots.  Anyways I got to watch her find, then follow the scent and flush the bird up.  I did not do my part after that and gave the pheasant a two shot salute as it headed off.
