We saw him at the Safe this year.

And last year we saw Sharon Jones just months before she passed.

If you grew up in the 70s or 80s he was part of the soundtrack of your life - One of my all-time favorites. RIP Tuxedo Tom

Saw him at the gorge about 15 years ago, one of the most memorable concerts I've ever been to!

I went to the Tom Petty, Bob Dylan, Grateful Dead show in Minneapolis in 1986, but I remember absolutely nothing. Come to think of it, I don't remember much of 1986! He is definitely one of my favorites.

Despite CBS News confirming earlier that Tom Petty, the famed and beloved rocker behind hits like “American Girl” and “Free Fallin,” had died at the age of 66 following a cardiac arrest, TMZ contends that he's "still clinging to life."

TMZ, who initially broke the story, reports that CBS News' earlier claim that the LAPD confirmed Petty's death is "inaccurate." The outlet's sourcing claims that Petty is "not expected to live throughout the day, but he's still clinging to life."

UPDATE: CBS News quoted LAPD on Twitter at 5:09 p.m. EST saying it "cannot confirm earlier reports of singer Tom Petty's death."

I heard several other news sources say there is no brain activity and he has been taken off life support.  I've heard both that he is dead and that he is clinging to life.  I hope he pulls through, but it does not sound like that is possible.
