Get a good sling, I have these on all our hunting rifles and shotguns and they stay put very well.

I agree but there are many times that I can't because of some of the steep backcountry terrain, i'm using my hands to help myself climb. Looking for something for the hikes in. The Kifaru gun bearer looks awesome.

I've never been a fan of the Kifaru, I don't like how it rides in front of my arm and face. The system always felt like it was in my way even when I was on flat, open ground.

If I feel that I need to sling a rifle it goes head and arm and never just over a shoulder which is less than useless unless you are just walking along n have an extra had to keep the sling on your shoulder.  While I am not a fan of slings to carry a rifle, all my rifles carry them, but I have yet to find the perfect one.

Oh, for the hike in.  In that case, just strap it to your pack.  I had an Eberlestock, before that was something cheap and now an Exo with their weapon carrier.  The Eberlestock was the easiest as it just slid in and good to go.  If you strap it to your pack, they all work about the same.  I prefer in the back vs on the side just because it is more out of the way.

This is the one I use. No matter what you do, this thing never slips. Quake Claw, can find those on ebay for around 15-18 dollars.

I use that for my shotgun. Very solid choice

What kind of backpack do you have?

I also use a Quake Claw Sling.

How about a Safari Sling?  About 25 years ago I bought a thing that screwed onto the backpack with an L hook at the top and a rubber pad that the stock velcroed to at the bottom.  That worked well, but was not quick access.
