Calling all cage makers
« on: October 13, 2017, 07:07:25 AM »
Been looking at some designs for a couple different cages. Think I am going to start with a couple gravity door set ups. I bought a Tomahawk Gravity door so I could get the basic concept down. Where are you guys getting your materials from? I looked at a few places online. Anywhere local? The Tomahawk is 12 gauge 1in x1in mesh. Thinking thats what ill start with. Thanks for the input.

Are you building muskrat traps? 3nails has some good threads in the trapping section on this site.

I bought all my supplies at dels in Monroe.  I don't think they are still around. Any feed store should have what you need for muskrat traps.

I think you are going to have trouble if you are set on 12 gauge. All the feed stores have 14 gauge to my knowledge. It should work. When I bought that kind of stuff I got it at Dels who I think were bought out by Tractor Supply.

Thats what I have been running into. Not set on 12 gauge but it looks like most frameless/guliteen door style cages are made from 12 gauge. I have found it online but in very large quantitys. Just not looking to go the route. Maybe I will try the 14 and see how it holds its form

You can get 10 gauge 2"x2" wire at Grating Pacific in Kent. It comes in 5'x12' panels. That is what I am using in my frameless traps. Galvanized though it is pretty pricey. Seems like I remember $80 something a panel. Bright is like $30 something.
You better have a good brake if you are figuring on bending the stuff.
