Prehunt rituals / superstitions
« on: October 27, 2017, 07:41:17 AM »
Who has those good luck rituals before going hunting?

Growing up it was bad luck to shave during the season before you killed a deer (probably why i cant kill anything now stupid regulations making me shave for work  :chuckle:)

Something I have come to call The Death Hat....

Bought it in the early 1980's at Kudlacek's Archery in Longview, WA.  Since then, it has been in on more sucessful hunts, archery, muzzie and modern than not.

Most recent example, last season, could not find a buck during season, dug out the Death Hat on the last day and took it along...tipped over a nice Halloween forky!!
It is better to be consistently incorrect than inconsistently correct...

Sarcasm: The ability to insult stupid people without them realizing it.

My level of sarcasm depends on your level of stupidity...

Sarcasm makes smart people laugh and stupid people mad.

Nothing to dramatic. Typically just a big family dinner, talk about the upcoming hunt, maybe talk some smack, make a few friendly wagers.

I used to have a camo set of under britches I wore taking my first three deer. Turns out under britches don't last too long though and I have not found an alternate lucky set yet.

I don't recall how it started but my dad and I would listen to the album "Bat out of Hell" by Meatloaf as our good luck charm. We still call it our fight song.

I listen to the "Art of War" audio book on my way out to hunt.

It's a reminder to me to be hunt smart.
You will never shoot a camp bull by spending all your time hunting in the woods.

I'd find myself changing out the rounds in my BLR clip if I didn't get into any deer that day. During archery I'll grab an arrow from a different part of the quiver each stalk or bull bugled in till I find the lucky combo, never really understood the thought behind it.  :dunno:

My son's give me one of their action figures the night before the season begins, which I then ziptie to my day pack.  I currently have Yoda and Batman watching my back this year.  My hunts have been successful for the past 3 years doing this.

That's awesome. I have also toted around "Fred" who is my niece's little stuffed animal frog. I take a picture with him and send it to her to show her the adventures of Fred. She gets a kick out of it

Before going out to hunt with my recurve bow I like to listen to the Ted Nugent song " Fred Bear" as kind of a good luck charm. My brother and I have a rule that if we find a shed while grouse hunting that the shed has to stay in the truck for the entire grouse hunting trip (around 4-5days). We call it our "lucky antler" and we see way more grouse with it in the truck  :chuckle:

I find that if I let my beard grow freely I see more deer and shoot more birds. I started in 2015 by not shaving from June 15th-end of the year. Couldn't grow a beard last year for some reason and had a terrible hunting year. This year, my beard started June 15th while working in Arizona and has only been touched once. Seen a lot of deer this year and hope to shoot a lot of birds.

I don't purchase my tag till i down an animal
To hunt and butcher an animal is to recognize that meat is not some abstract form of protein that springs into existence tightly wrapped in cellophane and styrofoam.

I use to eat chili at Three Fingered Jacks for dinner Friday night before the opener.
It took my son until he was 15 years old to figure out why.
For years he would be behind me going up the trail in the dark,
Really, really
