He's survived predators, bad winters, droughts, stumbling hunters, disease, probably some dicey road crossings during the rut and who knows what else. He's spread some seriously superior genes throughout his long life and fought like a prize fighter every single year to do so (good times). I'm of the opinion that this old gentleman/warrior dies on his terms, in his bed, reminiscing about how he defied the odds and did HIS thing for so many years.
I love this pic....It's like looking at a WWII veteran. Seeing them in their current condition yet knowing what they did.
