I guess I'll jump in and share some of my excitement.  I've long wanted to thin the herd and put some coin into what I consider a lifetime gun for me. Something that I don't forsee ever getting rid of and God willing will be in the field long after I'm gone.  Being only 41 and not a rich man by any means I needed to ask myself what was important to me now and what would stand the test of time regarding caliber.

For caliber I decided on 7mm rem mag. Managable recoil and plenty of oompf for my hunting needs and plenty of range for my plinking needs.

I looked into many builders both local and online.  I looked at production rifles like the Kimber Ascent.  I talked with members that own all kinds of custom and semi custom. I kept going back to a builder that in my mind is the perfect fit. Self made, local, a shooter and hunter himself, and being a big resource and contributor here sure didn't hurt. Sent in my deposit to Travis at Rbros last week.

I'm excited. I'll be getting a LW Hunter in 7mm rem mag built with the 180gr Berger VLD in mind. It will be fairly stock for his builds. Standard break, stock, and tube. For glass it will get the NF NXS 5.5x22x50.  Bipod is the adjustable Harris with swivel.

Now is the hard part. I'm in no hurry and am told be done by May. I may get a few pics along the way to share. Did I say no hurry....well...I admit to being a little antsy. Like knowing you are getting a special present at Christmas and trying to get to sleep.

More to come!

Good choice in rifle, and cartridge.

I'll be interested in seeing photos when it's done.

When you say LW hunter....how light weight are we talking?  How long is the barrel?  Little more information would be great as I do my research.

thanks

I had a very similar-ish semi custom built on a Rem 700 LA awhile back except mine was chambered in 7mm Blaser mag which is a near ballistic twin to the 7mm Rem mag.  Mine has a fluted Hart #4, 8tw, finished at 26 inches and wears a NF NXS 5.5-20x50.  I shoot the Berger 180's w/RL26 and with the load I've settled in on it gives me right at 3050 fps.  With a brake, these things are a *censored* cat to shoot.  I'm sure you will like it a lot, Travis is a good guy and builds very nice stuff.

6.9lbs sounds pretty light, are you using some kind of LW CF stock?
