Question new muzzleloader, won't fire
« on: January 06, 2018, 09:37:54 PM »
So I just bought a Knight vision muzzleloader back in Oct. Just got to shooting it today. When I fire nothing happens, take out the musket cap, same thing. I eventually got 1 to fire. My buddy uses the bighorn an same powder an caps an his fires but did notice the caps in mine the firing pin punches a hole. They are Western legals and have us both confused, I'm new too muzzleloading so I'm seeking some advise.
Cci musket caps, triple 7 pellets,  federal trophy copper BOR lok is what I'm using.

I would read the owners manual. Could be something really simple
Seahawks
Hunting
Fishing
In That order

kind of sounds like the nipple might not be square.  Did it get dry fired much?  Does it have a lip forming around the area where it is cutting the hole in the caps?

I read the manual and didn't say anything.

I fired it 3 times then the 4th went off 2 more times nothing. Lip, I can't say didn't look at the caps close enough just noticed a hole where the pin hits. Looking at the sample test fire primer looks to be off centered.

Check the box and make sure it's the western model.  Kinda sounds like you may have ended up with the Full Plastic Jacket.  The nipple looks similar to a musket nipple, and  regarding the hole in the musket cap I think the western model has a flat receiver to strike the musket cap.  I'm not certain, and knight's web site is useless, but maybe.  :dunno:

It's Western no full plastic jacket. Everything is exposed.

Pellets are a problem for musket caps IMO, try some 777 loose FFF or FFFF and report back, also be sure you clean all the holes in the nipple !!

I know for a fact they had some issues with that brand new. A Buddy had the same problem with his. Contact knight. It is probably a bolt/firing pin issue. They will get you squared away. I highly recommend knight to everyone who asks what to buy. Felt pretty crappy when you recommend them and there’s issues like these brand new from the factory.

Are you gettingbyour caps all the way on the nipple? Is the nipple threaded in all the way ? Take the nipple out and clean it, make sure the breech is clear with super hot water , dry and start over, make sure the nipple is threaded in allbthe wsy , maybe switch to cci caps, it's all I have ever used and they always work..
my grandpa always said "if it aint broke dont fix it"

Is the cap going off?  If not changing propellant isn't going to help.

:yeah:  Give Knight a call. They had some issues a couple years ago with their Ultra-Lights not popping the cap, sent mine in and they sent me a new bolt.
