I want a Dodge Challenger. Talk me out of it
« on: February 25, 2018, 09:34:07 PM »
So, I want a Dodge Challenger.  Probably not the Hellcat because of the price but, I want a Challenger instead of the Charger because of the manual transmission available in the Challenger.  Looking at probably the 485hp SRT.  Any reason I shouldn't get one?  I've heard Dodges live in repair shops.  Is this true for the Challengers?  Help me out here.

DO IT!  YOLO!!!   :chuckle:

At 485 hp, nearly anything not diesel will see a repair shop.

Last fall I flew into Salt Lake to float the Green river. The guy at the rental counter asked me if I could drive stick.  I told him I could, and he asked if I would like a free upgrade to a 6 speed Challenger SRT.  Of course I said yes...   Put a couple hundred  miles on it driving city, highway, mountain roads.  Played with all the traction and launch computer stuff and beat on it pretty hard.  It's a very comfortable car and holds plenty of gear.  Very fast once hooked up and heading in a straight line.  You asked us to talk you out of it so here goes... It's huge - 4300 pounds.   Transitions feel awkward as all that mass has to change direction.  Launching is hard as all that inertia has to be overcome.  It just felt boaty to me.  Of course it all depends on what you want it for.

Guys at my work have the Challenger SRT. They are sweet. Another guy has the charger. I think his is the top of the line model. One guy told me who owns one not to buy it because it’s a big dumb heavy muscle car  :dunno: . You should rent one for a few days. Another couple guys have the 2017 corvette Z06. I would go for that if your going to do it. They are bad ass and come in a manual. Another guy has a GTR. That car is also bad ass and worth looking at.

Yes, it will live in the repair shop.

But I admit it’s one of the few cars left that to this day still looks like a TRUE muscle car.
All others seem to be all spotted out with the new technology and all that bit there’s just something about the challenger that screams old school muscle..
Doubt I’d ever buy one because of the upkeep but it’s bad ass for sure

Super fun car to drive. They’re big and comfy but a lot of fun. Get an SRT8 and put some exhaust on it and drive it like you stole it!
It’s been 5 years since I worked at a Chrysler shop but when I was there, they were good and pretty trouble free. Start growing your mullet now.

Depreciation.

If you want to spend that kind of money on a flashy car that's fun to drive, buy the real McCoy - a 1970 - 1972 Dodge challenger.  You could probably get a really  nice 383 4 speed car, maybe even a 440 magnum 4 sp, for that kind of money.

Then, sell it for more money when you're done with it.

I'll say it. Why not? Because this is only your newest obsession.  Give it a month and you will done with cast iron also. You posted you bounce from want to want and then regret it. Pull back, focus on life not a new shiny car.
