you've got to try it with your ammo and see how it patterns.
modified may be too opened up. might work ok though too. typically you want a tighter patterning choke like a full. turkey chokes are even tighter than full.

This is just my  :twocents: but please do try atleast a full or a full turkey choke in your gun..They are very cheap. HS has a choke called the undertaker and its under 20 bucks..we owe it to the birds to have a quick clean kill..

What about my recurve?  What options do I have there?

call these guys...
http://www.choketube.com/

tell them what ammo you plan to shoot and what gun you have and they will point you in the right direction for a choke. carlsons chokes are $30-40 and are real good quality.

recurve...can you shoot it accurately? IMO it is incredibly difficult to get drawn on a turkey without getting busted unless you have a ground blind. they're not easy to kill with a bow at all.

At 20 yards I am confident that I can kill a turkey with my recurve.  I would try to get it closer than that just to be sure.  I have never turkey hunted before so I think its going to be a challenge no matter how I go about it.  If I get busted, I will be disappointed but at the same time will be happy as a pig in sh*t for getting the oppurtunity to draw on one.

Like jackelope said, get a ground blind then if you are going to archery hunt. I've gotten busted before by lifting my face 1/2" up off my stock to make sure it was a long beard...drawing a bow is way more movement than that.

Dan, with no disrespect at all.  You are very green at turkeys, and I suggest that you take one of the offers that have been given to you to learn the most of how to completely hunt them.

Chokes, you shouldnt really use anything less than a full and I suggest a extra full.
What type of shotgun are you using ?

Archery, you should use a good broad head.  I have good and bad about the Guiletine (sp)

Camo. Simple  Head to Toe !   As other have stated, turkeys have some of the best vision there is and will spot you Fast !

Calls, not sure how much experience you have with a diaphram but they are the best if you know how to use them.
A box, slate, or push button take experience as well.  I have advised that you get yourself a good cd that teaches how to call. Let me search for a good one for you.

Just to confirm on the chokes and the ammo. Does differnt brands of ammo pattern differnt with the same style choke?

Yes, you can shoot two different types of ammo through the same gun and choke and get two totally different results.

Absolutely !!  I like the new Winchester ammo for ducks and geese, but can NOT get them to pattern worth a darn with my 870 and undertaker choke.  I am sticking with my Rem 3" # 4's.

This excact same ammo wont patter with crap in my buddys 935 !  But Win works well.  It takes a lot of shooting to find what works the best.  And sadly most guys dont spend that much time and effort to fiind what works best.
