Sherman spring bear

What’s the good word over there. Me and my old man have the Sherman tag and are going to head over soon. They moving in full swing over there yet?

I used to see bears starting mid May when I lived there. There is a bunch of lower lands besides the snowed in areas still, that you might get around in, maybe. Try looking at Refrigerator Canyon. I can't think of the name of the road, but it's right across from the state sand shed on highway 20 east of Republic on the south side of the highway. Go back to the first road on the right that's washed out and try that.

Was up Hall Creek last Fri and Sat.  No sign on the open hillsides or roads but seemed like the grass was kind of thin yet.  Didn't go down thru Refrigerator though.  Headed up there again 6/1, does anybody have an idea when the bears start rubbing really bad?

It's going to be 88 today again, I expect bear to rub early, better get after it asap.

Might try staying low in the timber, looking for damp grassy areas since it will be so hot.  We killed two bears over there last year, one in Hall Creek, staying in the shade.  Had hot weather also and there was nothing on any open hill sides.

Not sure if I'll make it up this weekend or not. But heading up the 1st for sure, the plan for now is my brother and I are going to backpack in for a week.

You see more bear when you don't have a tag, proven fact    I had one bear I tried to take a picture of, nothing special, but hide was good no rubs.

They're hitting the logged areas hard that were logged within the last few years, and edges of burns.

No particular reason other than was going to a specific meadow in a creek bottom for the evening hunt.


Why not go into Refrigerator Canyon ?
