2017 NE Bull
« on: April 04, 2018, 12:28:23 PM »
After a long season with many miles and missed opportunities at elk in some any elk units.(including a much bigger bull) I decided to hit the hills closer to home after a fresh snow.  Picked up a lone set of elk tracks heading up an old skid trail and took off. After 6hours, 5 miles, and a 2300' elevation gain I finally got eyes on him for a second or two as a blew out of his bed. After another half mile of fast passed chase.  . He stood on an opposing ridge giving me a frontal shot at 340 yds. Which I gladly took my time to set up for. Something I'll never forget as the bull folded up at impact of the 143 great ELD center punched his heart out of the 6.5/284 Norma I built the previous summer. The pack out was hell but couldn't have done it without some good friends.

Don Laubach wrote that was his favorite way to hunt elk.   Major props to you for running one down.

Been an awesome couple of seasons back to back. In 2016 I hit the grandslam filling all 4 tags (bear, cougar, deer, elk) 2017 I drew a second deer permit, Wyoming antelope, and Montana Combo deer and elk. Filled 3 deer tags, bear, antelope, and one elk tag. Plus my girlfriend was able to also fill all 4! Hopefully continues into 2018 with any luck.

Way to stay with it!!
