goats
« on: May 19, 2018, 11:32:06 AM »
if you get drawn is there guides willing to hunt them in Washington that would know more than the average person since we cant hunt them year after year.   guess I don't have to worry until I draw.   but I would like to tag along to help someone if the wanted some company and I could learn more on them.

@White Pass Outfitters guides in the Goat Rocks and probably other places. Rugged Class Outfitters and Chinook Pass Outfitters guide in the southern central Cascades as well. I'm sure there are others in other parts of the state.

Heh.  Cool shot!

Funny how confident some of them get with humans over time.  The Enchantments have some BOLD animals that will just about run you off the trail.

Even in the huntable populations of the Goat Rocks, I had a big one walk about 20 yards away from my tent in the middle of the night (I had two 50+ lb dogs with me that were unleashed).  Thankfully for the billy they were lazy and sleeping like rocks, but he had to have smelled them and decided it approach anyway.

From what I have gathered from reading several goat hunt stories, it's a common fear.  You have to find the right animal, in the right location.

I've read several reports of losing nearly all of the meat to a fall.  That's a shame.. The likelihood of the average person going on a second goat hunt in their lifetime is pretty slim.  If you get one chance, don't blow it.   Plan for ledges and know how to plant an anchoring shot.
