I'm not concerned with the terrain. I'm more concerned with not being prepared for that area. And I've never backpack hunted. And that's what I'm more interested in doing this year and on forth and eventually going on long backpack hunts (overnights) untill I get something when time permits.

Is there anyone going out in the next few weeks? Maybe I can tag along on a spring hunt b4 it closes. I'll be a pack mule. Just to get some experience??

Would really appreciate it,

This is old, and I've changed out some pieces since but it worked fine, clearly I didn't die and he had enough opportunities to miss multiple bears. Sorry, haven't posted anything new in awhile..

The responses on this thread make me happy. This is what I think the forum should be about.

Vmascorro89, You may be more familiar with the Wenaha than my reply on this post addresses, but its a primer on accessing the Wenaha: https://hunting-washington.com/smf/index.php/topic,215513.msg2869026.html#msg2869026 .  For a first trip, assuming you still choose the Wenaha for your maiden voyage, I'd suggest using and staying near the Mt. Misery trail.  Its about as flat as it gets, you see a lot of country from it, and there is water all along it.

Sweet, thanks. I have set my mind on Wenaha so that's where I will go. I appreciate all the help everyone. I hunted up north the last 2 years (49°North) and was mainly a pack mule/ pusher for my dad and Grandpa. So alot of walking/hiking I am acustom to.

You'll figure it out once you're there, but the two units have zero in common, totally different terrain, food sources and ease of access.  :twocents:

A 7 year old girl beat me to my spot in the wenaha today - maybe the legs are starting to age? Heh.

It sure turned wet, cold and nasty in the Wenaha this weekend.  I packed into the Oregon Butte area Thursday night and came out in a hurry Saturday when the snow started to fly.  In spite of the weather, it was a beautiful trip.  The flowers are going strong and this rain will put them into overdrive.  Saw some fresh bear sign around the 4800' - 5000' level.
The lazy do not roast any game, but the diligent feed on the riches of the hunt.
