Rockchuck Habitat
« on: March 15, 2009, 08:19:07 PM »
Hey guys, new to the board.  Just found it yesterday, and I am SO glad that I finally found a forum that is unique to the PNW.  Very cool.  Anyhow, for the last few years, I have been looking for spots to hunt rockchucks.  I used to live in Ellensburg, and people told me they were all over the place around the valley.  Seems anyplace I looked, there were no chucks to be found.  I found a few over towards George by the Evergreen Reservoir, but not enough to make it worth a trip from the wet side to chase them down.  I think that perhaps I am looking in the wrong types of habitat.  What sort of things should I be looking for when scoping out chucks?  I mean, rocks obviously , but what else?  Do they like higher elevations, or should I be in the desert?  They like it dry or green?  My .204 is dying to be baptized in rockchuck blood this year, and any help pointing me in the right direction is truly appreciated.
Thanks in advance for the help,
Chris

Welcome to the site. You might go introduce yourself in the introductions area and then either PM Sage Weasel or hope that he responds to this thread. He had an awesome post on here a while back about shooting rockchucks. Here's the link to that post:

Rock slides and big wood piles mainly.

Thanks for the replies, guys.  I think I may drop Sage Weasel a line, when I get the chance.
