Lots of Specs "White-Fronted" geese around.
« on: September 04, 2018, 08:35:03 AM »
Early goose is approaching.  Watch out for the specs in the flocks as it is not open for white-fronted geese.  Last year we had multiple groups come in and we had to flare them out of the spread.  They would cross the road and were getting pounded by another group.

Remember Canada Geese only!  Eh!

I am curious why there is a 10 bird limit on Specks but they don't allow them during the early goose season? Seems like a contradiction.  :dunno:

Good question.  They don't want you to short stop those California birds I guess.  We see more specs during the early Sept. goose season than we do all season.

I was told by WDFW it is because there is a percentage of the specks that are "Tule Geese", which is a sub strain of Whitefronts that migrate through early and they don't want them killed. Maybe all BS? I don't know- it is what they said...

I thought I read it was open  for the youth early opener?

In archery we have something like the way of the superior man. When the archer misses the center of the target, he turns round and seeks for the cause of his failure in himself.

For youth only.  Those geese pass through the first two weeks of Sept. in many cases.  You will see a few stragglers come the opener, but not to many.
