Hunting State land question

The big game synopsis states "Most state lands are open to hunting unless they are closed by state, local, or municipal laws".

Prior to reading this, I called the Olympia office and asked if state lands were open to hunting....the guy pretty much said no.  I see that there are many parcels of state land that are nowhere near a municipality, or anything, most have no signs of any kind posted.

Does anyone have any knowledge of this issue?  Any way of getting a true answer for hunting these state lands?

Who did you talk to?  What department?  Calling and asking a question is almost never the route to go with any single question, the answer to almost every question is written down.

A lot of state land is open to hunting. Maybe he thought you meant state parks. :dunno:

Make sure you actually talk to the Wildlife Program. If you got another division of WDFW (Fish, Habitat, Licensing...) they aren't up to date on the other program's regs and aren't supposed to answer questions for other programs because of that problem. I suggest calling 360-902-2515 (the wildlife program's direct number) and make sure they know you aren't talking about parks.  :tup:

To get a correct answer, you need to provide the specific area you are considering. Most state land is open to hunting, but some isn't.
Nature. It's cheaper than therapy.

Rule #1 when dealing with the government "Never believe anything they tell you".

Get it in writing.
State DNR land is open to hunting but some lies in firearms restricted areas where high powered rifles cannot be used.  State parks is closed to hunting.  WDFW is open to hunting.  Watershed land can be closed to entry.  Of course there may be exceptions, but these are the general rules.
