So we have one guy in my camp with a quality tag. I've advised him to register for the wind farm. Problem is that our camp is (and always has been) over on the Reecer Creek side. My partners are reluctant to move somewhere new. We just spent Thursday thru Sunday over near Sun East and saw NO elk at all. I'm getting worried. Should I continue to push for moving towards the wind farm? I know there are no guarantees, but I'm looking for any help we can get. Are we more likely to see some branched bulls over there to the east than we are staying west? Any info appreciated, Thanks!

Yes on the wind farm. Park creek drainage is a place I would keep a close eye on, they move thru there on there way to wind farm. I was in the akilia Monday and there was a herd of 40 cows and a big bull laying on the northside of I-90 right up by the ryegrass rest area.

Thanks Killmore. I spoke with the quality permit holder last night and he has agreed to get a wind farm permit and check the wind farm late in the permit week, still wants to start with the SW Colockum Reecer area though.

I think the wind farm is a reservation to hunt , limited on how many people can go on. I wonder if they are any left.

I know were a good 350 plus 9 x 7 is I watched him for about 45 min pushing his cows had about 40 and 3 sat bull with him

Well Glock, I'm going to give it a try. I've got access permits for 10/31 and 11/1. In the meantime I'll be scouting the area with my permit holder during permit week, probably 10/24 and 10/25. I've never researched the general season success rates for the windfarm, I'm sure they're out there somewhere but I haven't had the time to look.

you would be crazy to leave the reecer Wilson area if you have a quality tag. come on over to the wind farm and shoot a bull with baby 3rds that will be in the 330 range. plenty of big 375 bulls in the reecer area

Small thirds are kind of a thing in the reecer/wilson creek area. There are some big boys running around but a 375" bull is not a sure thing. I haven't heard of any being taken so far. Best of luck to you lucky tag holders.

Small 3rds are pretty rampant in the colock. I've seen some nice bulls come out of the colock but they've all had dink 3s' except 1. Theres been 1 monster this year that had it all and he was nice.

I hunted the archery season up there on sep 20 and all I ran into was bulls. Called in 3 different bulls in 30 min. While hiking across a clearing we ran into One that was a monster! He had what looked like two main beams on one side. He wasn’t very wide but a heavy one I never could get a good count on how many points he had. And this was all right off 97 heading up blewett pass

Still looking. Big 7 X 7..... in the reserve of course. 40 yards from fence on the wrong side!!!! Saw another big bull running across the Colockum Road on Sunday while on the way out. FIGURES! Not planning on going back up the Colockum again. Been to Park Creek a couple of days and haven't seen anything there yet either. Any tips out there? Sunday the 4th is coming fast. Thanks All

I would go low that’s just me could be all the bull were high beginning season but just think how many people pushed them around since archery.

Our permit holder took a 5x5 up Reecer. Wanted to hold out for bigger, but weather being what it was (way too nice), he decided not to take a chance. Saw no spikes in 6 days. Thanks to all who helped, and good luck to anyone still looking.

That's a bummer everyone was struggling with the tags this year. Opening day we passed 10-12 bulls and were in screaming elk from before daylight until the guy I was helping pulled the trigger about 3 pm. He got sick of me saying don't shoot that bull! Saw another 8-9 mature bulls packing the bull out until dark and the elk were screaming all around us as we cut up his.

If I ever held that same tag I would be hitting the 5 days prior to the general hunt hard. Pretty tough to have a quality hunt with that many people in the woods.

I was up helping my dad try to fill a spike tag opening weekend near the game reserve and had bull bugling before first light every morning. This was up the Colockum. Almost sounded like they were still rutting with how aggressive they were bugling. Never did get eyes on them.
