Red Fox Hunting ?
« on: November 26, 2018, 07:48:44 PM »
So where would a guy go to have a really good shot at shooting a red fox?  Pretty rare in WA, but is fairly high on my bucket list. Not a lot of info out there on a fox hunt.

The only one I have ever seen was a week ago. It was dead on HWY 26 west of Royal City before you drop into the gorge. Good luck!

I got one years ago.  I’ve seen them just about everywhere in the state. Just not very concentrated.

I havent seen one in about 20 years, and that was in king county.  A friend of mine that lives up above rice says he saw one run through his back yard, but im very skeptical.  He does smoke a lot of pot.  :chuckle:  ive never found tracks in the snow, and with the number of cameras i run in the tri county area without ever having gotten a pic of one, while i get lots of cougar, bob, yote and wolf pics...  just hard to imagine there are foxes around this area.

They don't do well in areas with coyotes is my understanding. but then who knows because I see them every time I've been to Central Idaho  :dunno:

I've seen two in Eastern Washington, one in Lincoln County and one in Spokane County.  Living in close proximity to humans.
Kindly do not attempt to cloud the issue with too many facts.

There was a ton on San Juan island when I went there with the wife two years ago but I don't think there's alot of hunting opportunity over there.

Head down river a bit.   There’s a slight concentration of them there. The Bar, Quincy, Ephrata, George and back.

I've seen 4 in washington over the years.  No rhyme or reason to the sightings.  I've seen a literal pile of them in central idaho and also in CO.  A few years back I was helping a buddy bone out a buck and we had a big red one walk up to 10ft and just sit there staring at us.  He was very patient waiting for his meal  :chuckle:

The last one I saw was about 15 years ago working the bank of the Kettle River in December down by Napoleon Bridge.

Saw them quite a bit when I was living in Walla Walla County. Unfortunately, I also see them here and have had several problems with them.

 :yeah:

They seam to hang out in the Parks.  American Camp, English Camp, and out at the Cape.

Had one steal a sandwhich from an apprentice a few years back while we worked.  Carpenter watched it happen, laughing his tail off.   :chuckle:
