Ruger preditor what bullet weight?
« on: December 17, 2018, 06:33:32 PM »
The barrel has an 8:1 twist looks like 62 grain would be better than 55 grain on the great www.  What does the real world shooting community say?  Thanks, I need to pick up some ammo before Christmas then I'll start reloading for her.

You'd be good with anything 80gr and under. The only issue you might have with some of the really light bullets would be having them come apart with max loads but that's pretty unlikely at 223 velocities.

If you're using it to hunt with, the faster the twist can help with bullet expansion. The right 55gr bullet from a 1-8" twist barrel is like a 3300 fps grenade!

I get great results even down to 50gr in my 1:8 twist 223 rifles. Everything from there up to ~80gr as said above should be good to go.

I have a .223 with a 1:7 twist myself and it shoots 55gr and 62gr bullets really well. I've tried lighter bullets (36 and 40 grain) and they did not shoot worth a darn for me.
