Cap and ball revolvers
«

Years ago i had a ruger old army and didnt hold onto it very long before selling it and now im starting to regret that decision as my girlfriend and i are getting into black powder and away from hunting with modern guns. The ruger old army may quite be the strongest cap and ball frame ever made and im gonna talk to the guy who i sold mine to and see if I can buy it back (remember no ffl needed) but id like to get her a cap and ball revolver too.
I know these guns have their limitations but for what we are wanting they work fine.
Now historically speaking the walkers and dragoons and new armys and colts were the best but what I'm wondering is in this day and age which cap and ball guns are junk and whats something worth while?

I personally like the Remington's with the top strap better than the open top colts.
I carried a little colt 32 cal. for a long time on the trapline in place of a 22. It was reliable, it was an Italian copy.

I'd go New army with the top strap so you could put more powder in there than the old style.
I shot a deer with one of mine, Old Navy, I limited my range to 15 yards.

You can get a Remington with adjustable sights. Might be another option

Any manufactures to stay away from? Gimme the lowdown on these things.
I know the ruger old army is damned near indestructible
But what else can handle decent loads?
What should i stay away from?

Point of interest for all you black powder folks, Cascade mountain men are having their annual blackpowder show in Monroe, this weekend, March 9 and 10,
http://www.cascademountainmen.com/gunshow.html
, it is an annual show, I have never seen any like it, guns, furs, beads, anything related. Its a blast, I bought a cap and ball last year, now I just need to get out and shoot it. (you wont find powder) it is one thing that they wont bring

Look online for a ruger old army i have bought several in both blue and stainless with adjustable sights.
Whenni get a couple hundred dollars ahead i will.be buying the 45 Colt cylinder for the one i have. I sold one to a friend and my oldest son wanted one.
I paid from $450 to $550 for the three that I bought. I occasionally see thrm in the local.gun shops for $ 650.
At that gun show this weekend i went to.it last year and the ones i seen there were $900 & better.
