Idaho or Montana?
« on: February 27, 2019, 05:43:19 PM »
Here we go. You have been a lifelong resident of Wa. For two years you have been kicking around the idea of moving to another western state. You decided to do it and narrowed it dow to ID or MT. You would be happy in either but want the best state for all things hunting and to become a residentt hunter in. In your opinion, which would be the best state and why?

seem like both pretty even onlything that ID has going for it  is half descent draws and opportunists might actully get a OIL tag   and the general hunts  are pretty good  and if into it  actually bait bears  or  just  spring bear otc but you can say the otc spring bear about both

The more the posts like this all over the internet, the more people that are moving to these places by the week due to the easiness of the research. This right there is changing the hunting prospects and draw odds by the year

Best to pick a place on the map and go. That's partially what I did and what I will do again next year.

Self explanatory if you do a little bit of research that both states are great, but all of the states like Idaho and Montana, transplants are flocking there and changing the laws as they dont like them.

I'd say Montana. It's a bigger state, and has more of a variety of terrain to hunt. More easier terrain, which might be a very good thing as you get older.

In all honesty between the two it really comes down to what (or if) you have to do for a living. If you have to rely on a population center for your living your probably coming to Idaho and sw Idaho at that. If not there’s a lot more space in Montana. Personally though, if all were equal and my salary wasn’t related to being where I am. I’d already be in Wyoming

Idaho was awesome when I moved down here 10 years ago, not anymore. Population is skyrocketing, ada/canyon county alone were averaging about 4000 California to Idaho drivers license changes per month over the past year, I’m sure the Coeur d’Alene area was probably about the same. People are flooding into this state and it’s not going to improve Idaho over the long term.

Montana is the same migration of transplants its just a lot bigger so you can still have some breathing room. I have lived Idaho 25 years and moved here from Montana. I would put in the second vote for WYOMING! or to further  complicate your research Alaska

Wyoming was high on my list, then I spent time with some residents, winter is about 9 months long and cold as heck.  That being said, it’s beautiful around Cody.
“In common with”..... not so much!!

Zero possibility that I wouldn't land in Alaska long enough to hammer out everything they have up there  :twocents:
