I will be out on Lake Stevens on a shake down on my boat Saturday. New Scotty's, new 9.9 Extra Long (2995.00 @ 3 rivers) new stereo and amp with speakers. And New Line counter Abu's and kokanee rods.

Looks like a good day for fishing. Of course I cannot think of many bad days.

@whitey

If you see a shiny new black rhboats center console dragging gear throw me a wave! Hoping to get a trip in to double check my set ups before @Dan-o and I get out for a kokofest.

The 8 hp is identical to the 9.9 except the carb and decals.

You can pick up a new 9.9 (Merc or Yamaha) for $2,250 for pull start.
wrong. Most  9 and 15 are identical (8 would be identical to 6 in most cases) , except the carb and decal, and a few use a slightly different impeller  :tup:
You might want to look at a 6hp!8 and the 9.9 are the same.
step into my outboard repair shop and ill show you them  :tup:

You all best get to it.

I'm telling you right now there won't be a Koke left alive in Western Washington if when  H2O takes me out for a morning.

I thought the Yamaha 9.9 and 15 were the same motor just different heads?

It's super easy to look up the weights and displacements and see which motors are the same.  It may have been different in the past, but for current year motors, I posted the data earlier.  It is also pretty obvious if you see them lined up next to each other.

I was wrong about the heads, for the two strokes it is the reed valves that are different

“typically the 9.9 has 2 reeds on the reed block and the 15 had 3.
they did it that way for some years here in the states.
with the correct test prop you can actually see the 200 RPM difference on the tach.”

On the 4 stroke I think of kracker is correct
