That reminds me, have your buddy carry another muzzy that your familiar with, loaded, ready to go for your second shot if needed.

Just make sure your buddy has a muzzy tag or a multiseason tag so there is no grey area.
Extra ramrod is a good idea.
And yes the elk will be in the same general area. They may move a mile or so but that is only 45 minutes tops doing a slow walk. People think it is clear out of dodge but it's really not.
Good luck and looking forward to hearing the story.

I just talked to a guy Saturday night that had the same tag a few years ago. Missed on shot number one but the elk didn’t know where the shot came from. In his haste reloading he left the ram rod in and launched it towards the elk missing again.

Went up on Tuesday to check out our hunting area. Saw a very nice 8x7 with about 40 cows. Shortly later saw a younger 7x7 and 6x6 running together. I say younger as they lacked mass and tine length. Both in the 300 range. Big boy was 340-350. All hard horned of course. Will be up there for archery chasing spikes then cows. I had a 400 class bull on camera in 2016 when I had my Colockum tag, come the rut, he and about 6 other very respectible bulls I had on camera disappeared/relocated. Lesson I learned, had very few cows on camera all summer, just a lot of bulls. FIND THE COWS my friend and have a little patience. I literally passed on 25 bulls within shooting range that were 5 point or better before I took a nice 6x7 on day 4. He was a younger bull but tapes at 45" wide and at 20 yards with my son nealing beside me, I let her fly. Good Luck.

Not with my experience. I've been hunting this u it for the past 6 or 7 years and we find elk and big bulls every year. Plus very few hunters where we go. Either way it's hunting and I have a bull tag in hand, so I win either way.

So came up to one of my spots last night to scout for the weekend. Got up early and headed to a draw that I have been wanting to get to and snoop around. So I brought my rifle along just in case I saw a bear, right. Well this morning I decided that I dont need the meat and would rather scout that possibly pack a bear out of this area, so rifle stayed at camp. I even told myself that I was going to see a bear!!!
So I get into this area and I see movement about 75 yards ahead and it's a bear moving right to left and the wind is still going downhill in my face. I move a bit to see it pop out into a thin patch of timber and then it flips a 180 and goes back the way it came. I literally took two steps and it didnt smell me, so thought what the heck? So I grab the phone and my cow call and start whining real quite for about 5 seconds. The bear popped out withing 15 seconds and walked to 10 feet of me. Once it stepped up on the log, it was close enough for me and I had a chat with the bear. It ran 2 steps and turned around. I'm now standing in the open talking to it and its staring at me with out a care in the world. I'm still talking and after about a minute it walks off. Beautiful hide and color and just how I expected it to be.
Fun either way, but wish my buddy or my son was with me because they haven't shot a bear yet and that would have been fun. Bulls are talking a little bit but not much. Found a patch of timber that has trees 24" diameter all torn up.
