2009 Fawn Watch

It is only about 6 weeks before we should start seeing newborn fawns which is good news for spring bear hunters.

Post when (date), where (County), type (BT, WT, MD) and how many.

To know where the bears will be out and about in search of freshly dropped fawns I'd assume. That's what I'd use it for.

Exactly.

They typically all drop within a week or so but it is good to know when they start. It is also usefull for photographers. Nothing cooler looking then a spotted fawn in the bright green grass.

I've seen statistics from the RMEF that said that although coyotes are constantly villianized for fawn mortality, bears contribute just as much to killing and eating newly dropped fawns.  Personally I'd like to see the WDFW expand the amount of spring bear tags.

Made it up to the woods today and didnt see any fawns.  I saw about six does but they didnt even look pregnant.    Maybe it will be a late fawning season down here.

Bears are hell on fawns. And with our Game Dept's agenda for future of bear hunting it will get alot worse. We need to make as much noise, and inundate them with letters to keep a boot hunt in August for 2010, and 2011.

Lewis county, black tail, one fawn 5-7-09 I was at work so I did not have my camera with me but I'll take it tommorrow and try to get a pic. I work at a wastewater treatment plant that is located on a 300 plus acre farm, we've got a bunch of deer that always hang around.

The does here around my brother's place (up on the hill above Castle Rock) are very pregnant, but no new fawns yet.

Seen a doe with a fawn out in Graham today, cute little bugger wish I had my camera.

we generally don't start seeing them untill the first cutting of Alfalfa...The bailers get alot of the one's yote's and bear miss..

Saw our first newborn this morning.  Cute little spotted bugger could hardly walk and keep up with momma.    Was not fast enough to the camera,  will get a pic in the next day or two, I am positive.
