Ladder stand on Weyerhauser property?
« on: June 23, 2019, 09:17:16 AM »
Hello,

I was hoping to put up and leave up a ladder stand on Weyerhauser property (something I can share a seat with my son on) and wanted to know if there would be any issues with that. This stand does not damage the tree whatsoever so it's just a concern of if anyone would be annoyed with a tree stand left for a period of time.

Thanks,

Rather than worry about annoying people, I'd be more concerned with someone growing too attached to it.

Oh I have no problems with someone else using it if they get there first, seems fair - there's plenty of woods for all.

:yeah:  That stand would likely grow legs.

I would never leave any stand on public ground unless you are confident it will not be visited by others. Sadly, it is probably true that most of the persons who steel cams, stands etc. are fellow hunters.

You should be fine, we see game cams, tree stands, blinds, bait piles, ect all over weyco land. I would just make sure to put the stand in an area that isn't going to be logged. You can tell if the area will be logged as you will see a bunch of different colored flagging.

Thanks sounds good - I don't mind other people using it if they arrive before I do and if it gets stolen, so be it, but honestly I have no access to private land of any type so this is the only way I can think of to ever use the darn thing.

You can chain it to the tree if you are worried about theft. I have had a climber stand left up on public ground  for quite a while and nobody has messed with it. I like your attitude about others using it but I would be pissed if someone jumped in my stand for that reason if I see someone’s tree stand I usually just hunt somewhere else. My stand is in Idaho so might be different but hunters have respected it so far. A climbing stand would be the easiest to steal but again no problems yet. I can think of 3 other stands I have found that are not mine that have been around a while(years)and nobody has messed with those either. I think ones been abandoned it’s been there over 5 years at least looks like a nice stand too. Maybe check with the timber company if they would have a problem with it if not go for it.
