Nushagak River Fishing Alaska
«
on:

I am looking at taking my dad to Alaska on a fishing trip. He is 64 and just retired. We are looking to go after kings. His interest would be in catching lots of fish more than one large one. Has anyone fished the Nushagak River with a guide that they would recommend? Our preference is to be on a river not the ocean. Any other suggestions for areas are welcome.

you are late to the game for this year, but if you are looking for 2020 check out Aaron Peterson with Peterson's NW Guide Service. He runs a camp on the Nush in the summer and is in WA the rest of the year. Usually has a booth at Puyallup and Portland, works with Lamiglas and Grundens.

Alaska King Salmon Adventures is the name of the outfit on the Nushugak. Aaron runs the guide team up there during the summers then comes back to WA for his outfit. They are slaying hogs up there now, that is a killer river to fish.

Have been several times and never had anything but a great time. Great crew, nice camp, and well organized. And the best part is they are low on the river, which means if any fish come on the tide you are catching fish.
I would suggest booking early, Ralph and Camille don’t do the show circuit because they don’t have to. Their repeat business % is very high.

Another vote for Alaska King Salmon Adventures, great guides, great boats, and great gear. The accommodations are superb as well as the world class fishing.

How many fish did you average a day per person. Are any dates preferred?

We were catching 10 or 12 Kings a day on average, some days more some days less. We were there the beginning of June. Our biggest fish for the trip was 42 lbs. the one I am holding was 30 lbs.

Another vote for Alaska King Salmon Adventures.
Last week of June was great for us and is typically one of the best weeks for most king fishing in AK.
We averaged around 20 fish per guy per day....but it was hot and cold depending on netting. One night we had 80 fish to the boat, the next day we only had like 15-20.
Make sure you push the guide to drift fish. Don’t pull plugs. It’s boring and not nearly as fun. Some guides will push pulling plugs all day.
One note....
It’s true alaska, be prepared for things to not go perfectly when going through Dillingham.

After reading Alaska king salmons page I have a question. Do you get two 1/2 days of fishing and 3 full days in the five day trip? Or is it five full days of fishing?
