I prefer Leupold because of the lifetime guarantee, good reputation, quality, the models I want are usually affordable, and are also made in the USA.

I voted for Leupold because I think it's the best scope for the money, especially considering the warranty, like you said. The new VX-II in a 3-9x40 is a great scope and priced at only $299, just about anywhere you buy it. It's basically the same as my older VariX-III (3.5-10x40.) I got that scope for exactly the same price ($299) back in '93, which even back then was a really low price for that scope. They eventually got as high as $475, in the higher priced catalogs (like Cabelas) and the cheapest you could get them was I think around $425 or so. Then a few years back they upgraded all their models, so that now what is called the VX-II is now just about the equivalent of my old Vari-XIII, and it's only $299. Great deal for a great scope. However, having said that, next time I'm in need of a scope I think I might try one that wasn't included in the poll...Sightron. I've heard good things about them and their warranty is almost better than Leupold's, because if something goes wrong, all you have to do is take it to the nearest Sightron dealer and trade it for a new one. Their prices are also very reasonable.

I own 3 Vari X III Leupolds but I'd be hard pressed to pay the money for 1 now, lifetime guarantee or not.  I still think they are awesome scopes but I think they've priced themselves too high.  My next scope will likely be a Bushnell Elite 4200.... would consider a Vortex or a Sightron as an under 250$ option.

On my 300 i have the 3X9X40 Bushnell elite 3200. I really like the rainguard coating. Really clear and i have never had a problem with fog or rain on the lense as it is the same either way.

 Ray, I have the Pro-Staff in 3x9 matte. I've tested the Monarch also, very nice scope.

I really like the Nikons, also. I have a couple of Monarchs and a couple of the Buckmasters. For the Money and warranty, great scopes. Plus I think they are alittle more clear then the Leupold. Just my 2 cents.

Can't beat a burris fullfield II for the price. 3x9x40 $185. 95% light transmission and will replace any broken scope.

I have one of each excluding the BSA, and simmons. I owned a simmons once or twice....gave them away. seen a objective lens rattle out of a tasco world class plus. had a couple run ins with the leupold warranty dept too. when it is all said and done I look at it like this;

leupold has the warranty nailed down tight. they have a pretty good line of scopes for the $$. I have a vari-xIII in 6.5-20,a VXII 3-9, a vari-xII in 3-9, a LPS in 4.5-14 and all are good scopes.....however.

they absolutley are not what the zeiss conquest is optically (excluding the LPS, that is a nice scope)
I think the 4200 is a better bang for the buck.

Nikon has a pretty good scope for the $$. they are not too keen on big bucker rifles...but neither is swarovski. I know I have puked em' both. I would have no problem owning one on a rifle up to 300 win mag.

burris has a lot to offer for the $$$, prolly more scope for $200 then anyone else can muster, if I had only $200 and had to buy a new scope, it would be a burris.....however,

I bought two of the ffII's and one had to go back to colorado for warranty work, the warranty dept takes twice as long as leuy, but a month is fair turn around for a scope.... I will let you know how long SONA takes. I personally would save another $50 and spring for a 3-9 4200 online for $250....just me.

for my $250 you flat can't beat the 3-9x40....a bunch of scope for the $$ I have a 2.5-10 4200 that still says bausch & lomb.....the way it should be. I think the weight is the only downer on the line....I still am pulling my leuy vxII custom shop off my TI gun to make way for a 4200, cause I like it that much.


weaver, I don't own a weaver anylonger. I have had grand slams and fixed powers. the eye releif was pretty light for my 338....did not like that much, optically it was very good for the $$. the grand slam is everything the vxII is and a good value, not my first choice, but I would trust one on any hunt.

when it is all said and done I would trade all my scopes off to have only zeiss and 4200's.  swarovski has killer optics, but my trust is had as I puked a scope that cost way too much to throw away.of the 4200 and zeiss,the conquest is the better optically but only by a VERY slight amount AND only at top power (to my eye, and I have both) if you run a 3-9 of each at 6 or so power they are too close to call in just about any light conditions, the 4200 does have rainguard which I really like....I like being able to see a snap shot in the rain a bunch more than I need to see a "redder" red or "deeper" blue....I take function over fancy any day.

I think anyone can find a flaw with any scope made and yet any of the ones I mentioned will serve you very well on any moderate weght rifle of any sane caliber.

don't expect much on a sub 7lb 300 ultra mag though........trust me

Just bought a Nikon Monarch 5-20X44SF for my 22-250. Only had is a week now but it appears to be super clear. I think I will like it.

Nice looking rifle, whats the caliber.  I own all leupolds, have one of the new cut face Leupolds also, only complaint is I cant get scope covers for it unless I use the rubber type.  Butler creek dont make any yet.  I am thinking about getting a night force, they are absolutely the best there is, they are just a little heavy.
