Astoria Salmon Charter Rec's - 7/28-8/1
« on: July 24, 2019, 06:15:35 PM »
Any recommendations, known openings, or leads for 3-4?

Is it worthwhile during this time?

Timing is perfect.  I'm sure you'll go over the bar and catch tons of coho.  I don't know any charters to recommend though.

Thank you, sirs.  FiL is looking to get his two grandkids out for some salmon action.

I'll start looking online, soon, if nobody has a guide to recommend.

So, not in Astoria but a short drive away to Ilwaco is coho charters. Butch Smith runs it and is a great guy and has super safe boats. He has been in the buisness forever and will get you on fish.

Good luck!

Thanks for the tip.  That about doubles the distance of any prospective trip, but I will keep him in mind.

My son and some friends went out of Astoria last year and limited out, they really like the guy and his boat, I'll ask him next time we talk who it was.

Bob Rees, Jody Mather, Andy Betnar - there's a ton of great guides that work out of the Astoria area. Thee really good ones usually book up early, though. I know years ago they used to run two trips per day on the silvers, take a boat out first thing and gt their limits, then come in and take a second group of clients out in the afternoon and get them their limits. Might pay to look around when you're down there, check in at the tackle stores for info and see if you can get in on a cancellation - lots of that going on, too.

You might call a couple of the Charter outfits in Ilwaco and see if any cancelations might benefit you.  Coho charters is a great outfit, and several more would be fine also.

This was the guide they fished with: http://salt2summit.com/
