Slept in
« on: August 06, 2019, 05:48:15 AM »
This will make you all laugh: I was going to go out hunting today. I had it all worked out where I would wake up at 3am to get there in time and beat the heat. I even picked out and epic alarm sound, Carol of the bells by transsiberian orchestra (because why not) . I carefully selected the 3am time. Re listened to the ringtone. "Yes indeed that is an epic way to wake up for a bear hunt", then set my phone on the charger without hitting save. I am now waking up at the time I was supposed to be 2miles up the hill on foot. Hunting is interesting. The reason it is so fun is due to the stories it produces. Nothing more, nothing less. Anyone ever had luck with still hunting for bears mid day in 88 degree heat?

My son shot his spring bear in 85 degree heat this spring. Th bear was actually sitting in a spring seep.

Still hunting them at 88 is good, getting them out of that seep hole without ten thousand blow fly eggs and a swarm of hornets is not, be careful out there

They are surprisingly active midday in the heat. I know of many bears killed, and have seen a lot of camera activity in scorching midday heat when the rest of us are dying for a shady patch or AC.
I hunt, therefore I am.... I fish, therefore I lie.

I’ve shot more at 10 am as things heat up than first thing in the morning.  I think they stay pretty active getting fat.

Anytime of days a good time to hunt bear but if I had to pick a time to NOT hunt bear it would be in the morning. I’ve never killed a bear before noon, all the Bears I’ve had on trail cams have been in the afternoons/evenings, most of the Bears I see regardless of time of year are in the afternoon.

Man you guys aren't joking. The bees out here are intense. Pretty aggressive critters. Found a new spot with pretty good bear sign. Looks like it might be a better spring spot due to evidence of chewed up trees but with any luck one will cross the path. Thanks for all the tips. The wind is in my favor today.

I make the drive the night before even if it's late in the evening. I hate waking up at 0200 or 0300 to make an hour and a half drive. Since sunrise is around 0530am, I want to be up and ready to hike in before then.

We saw 3 bears yesterday around 4000' in elevation from 0700-1000. Saw one at 80 yards but the wife didn't have a clear shooting lane when he was standing broadside to take one last look at us.
