LAKE CHELAN NORTH TIPS
« on: August 19, 2019, 07:59:04 AM »
Drew 2nd deer lake chelan north...was planning on just dressing nice and knocking on doors and seeing what happens but figured I'd check here 1st to see if there was some orchards/vineyards that are more pro hunting than others...

Google searching I found another thread on here on the same tag and it said to call fish & game and they would have info on who complains the most about problem deer ??

Thanks in advance...pretty excited to get some quality meat in the freezer

I drew the tag last year and got it filled by doing just what your saying. Knock on doors and start meeting people. Also the guy at wdfw who you will want to reach is Joe Bridges. Give him a call. Very nice guy. It's a great hunt, you will have no problem filling that tag. Keep us posted on what happens , would enjoy hearing how your hunt goes

I had the tag last year as well. I was never told no when I asked for permission to hunt the orchards. After I took my deer I made sure to haul out all the mess To keep flys and other scavengers out and not leave a mess for the workers. Took my deer up to the meat guy on Navarro coulee road he did a great job. You should have no problem with a bow.

Pretty much what everyone else has said. Joe Bridges is a great guy and will do what he can to help. Through my own legwork and some assistance from Joe, I had several landowners lined up when I had the tag a couple years ago.

However, on the weekend I drove over, one changed their mind about allowing deer to be killed, another failed to call me back, and one didn't show up  as previously arranged. It ended up working out just fine, but I would probably make a scouting/meet and greet trip over before you plan to hunt to be on firmer footing for access.

would have been cheaper to tent it. could have stayed at Kami resort or wapato resort. would put you right in the orchards and vineyards.

kentrek,

You are lucky you got a hotel this time of year, most are already full on reservations for next year by now! Chelan is kinda popular...tourist location. You could have tented it up by Antilon Lake. FYI, Harvest is starting on pears and the early apple variety are not far behind (jonathans, johnny golds, goldens, granny smith, etc). It would have been a better move to go last week as the orchardist are getting busy and preparing for fall harvest (mowing orchards, props, bins, etc.) so maybe check with some vinyards if you don't get any orchardist response when you knock on their doors....this is a private lands hunt only and must be within the deer fence surrounding Manson.
