I imagine the guy last year that shot that guy in the bushes when his buddies were making cougar noises feels even worse than you, hopefully. Know your target before pulling the trigger. Takes guts to admit to a mistake and post about it. Thank you for your public candor.

Well you guys sure know how to make someone feel better. Honestly was expecting some sorta flak.

And I’m planning to have a pillow or something made from it. The coat was amazing, already pretty full feeling too. My girlfriend said I should mess with my fur buyer and tell him I got a odd coyote. Really happy it wasn’t a sow with cubs, saw a mom with 3 just a mountain over in the spring.
May my presence go unnoticed, may my shot be true, may the blood trail be short.

Amen

That’s a tough go. I had a big sow and two cubs equal to that size at 20 yards this last weekend while scouting and almost shot, then saw them all and had to let walk. Kind of bitter sweet. You’ll find another. It’s like shooting a spike buck, it happens. I wouldn’t beat yourself up too much about it

Ouch. That stings!

I didn’t mean for that to come out bad if it did whoops. . In 2015, 30 min into opener of deer, I had a spike buck jump across the road in front of me. I instinctively shot without thinking anything other than it was legal. Nice work on the bear!!

To be honest I’m pretty sure I would have just pulled the trigger even if I knew the size.  We get two tags - why not?  It’s bonus meat. Kind of a fun skull next to the others.  A few claw necklaces for the kids.

Shoot man I think you’ve got me talked into a pre made decision.

I don’t see why you wouldn’t want to shoot a younger bear like that? I have eaten a few and I’m gladly take another young bear in the future. the meats the best there is.

Tracker0721, you are now solely responsible for the death of every cub you have inspired here today. They will be singing your praises at every bear BBQ for years to come. With two fall tags everyone will be killing cubs. Winter undies for all!
