I assume you are asking about elk? If so, I just spent the last five days in Yellowstone and the bulls had harems, but the locals said this coming week should be peak.

Just got back from Wyoming and Montana last night. It has been very cool and wet.  Moon phase made for tough hunting.  Bulls have their harems and are actively checking cows.  Next week should be good hunting.
The lazy do not roast any game, but the diligent feed on the riches of the hunt.

Yes sorry the elk rut... we are leaving tomorrow for 9 days in the wilderness. The forecast is still trending colder to wet an snow..by next friday it shows wind chills into single digits and highs below freezing . does anyone know how the super cold might affect the rut.? I'm a lifelong rifle hunter November so the rut is new to me...
Thanks for the replies

The rut will happen regardless of temperature. It's based on photoperiod. The cooler weather should have them active all day. Hot weather pushes rut activity into the night.

Thanks again just was curious with it getting so cold...I know we picked the new moon week to help with the night movement hopefully. Either way 9 days in the mountains chasin elk is all you can ask for...if they're screaming even better if not it'll still be an amazing experience hunting on horseback.
