Which Travel Trailer do you recommend/Dealer?
«
on:
September 23, 2019, 12:19:04 PM »
Hello everyone, new to the forum here. Wife and I are looking at getting our first travel trailer & have it narrowed down to the Keystone Cougar 22RBEWE from Tacoma RV & the Grand Design XLS 22RBE from Clear Creek RV in Silverdale or RV Country in Fife. Anybody have these travel trailers, the good the bad? Anybody have any experience with any of these dealers, the good, the bad? Some people I've talked to on the different RV forums have said where you buy from is just as important as which brand you get if not more. What are your thoughts?

Hi,
I have only dealt with Tacoma RV. I had a very favorable experience there. No sales pressure. I have had 1 warranty issue and they took care of it without an issue.

I called blue dog about the imagine xls because they have one in Idaho, but I would rather purchase local.

Everyone we have talked to that has bought from Tacoma rv has had nothing but good things to say. Hope to hear if anyone has had any experience with Clear Creek in Silverdale.

We looked at the outdoors rv but they definitely don't give them away! Not opposed to one a year or two old but can't find any in the two brands or floorans we want.

I was looking for an RV to live in a few months a year. Searched for a solid 4 months on all the typical sources from dealers to websites. I ended up at Rowley White in Phoenix. New to used, way cheaper in AZ in general for all the reasons we've heard a million times.
I got a 2006 3 axle Raptor for $12,000 in near perfect condition. They gave me a 6 month warranty and guaranteed everything worked top to bottom which it did and has since. Every dealer around here was selling similar units for 8-10K more.
I talked to all the local dealers and none of them would actually deal.

RV sales are way, way up from 10 years ago. The sales guys don't need you. You are your own advocate. Here's what I've learned in the last couple months:
1) They all fall apart at some point. Plan to maintain the hell out of that thing. The diamond plate body panel on the front of mine literally tore off on I90 - and this is a barely used 5 year old trailer. I was able to secure it and get it fixed, but it costs ya to do it.
2) I'll never buy a new trailer - I spent $400 to repair the above issue... But I saved $10,000 by buying a 5 year old trailer that was in like-new condition.
3) Find a good RV repairman. I've got one. You don't want the dealerships unless you have a warranty covering it. I have a guy who will drive out to my house and repair it on site.
As for your question - I asked the same question to the above said repair guy: Which manufacturer do you feel is putting out the best RV? His response was fairly generic but unbiased: They're all building better units than they were before, they're all fairly good quality now, but RVs fall apart. There's a lot of vibration hitting those things.
