I think the unit got more publicity from people on this website than Rinella, but that definitely added to it.

All a person has to do is Google "mountain view elk" guess where that leads...

 

and that thread exists because...kind of a chicken or egg thing. None of this happens if Rinella doesn't explicitly say unit name, roads, trailheads etc.

I would bet the episode has way more downloads than the Hunt WA thread has unique views, even then you have to try to suss out how many people came to the hunt wa thread because they googled mt view elk...because they heard about it from Meateater. Hunting forums have figured out the hard way that you don't post up specifics about units and the thread on Hunt WA would never even exist if Meateater hadn't put it all out

I'd be annoyed too if steve talked about my area but I've watch these kind of numbers in other units and that kind of increase isnt too far out of the norm

I feel your pain...

I used to have my hunting areas to myself. Until the internet...Alpine lakes was a ghost town in the 90s ... Peach's ridge, I could go a week without seeing anyone....now every Joe dick and Harry hunts them..I specifically hunt places now that don't have cell service, that at least cuts down on some of the weekend warriors...

how many non res elk tags are bought in WA each year?
reason i ask is this would have been interesting had rinella done that to a specific hunt in Idaho, or Colorado.
THEN i guarantee app's would have jumped 50% or more.
That is one thing WA is borderline immune to...insane amounts of non resident influx.
double edged sword though because it just means our game dept. can't manage for shiz

I do know its been rough down there on the muzzy hunt compared to last year, 1 guy has already gave up

Muzzy hunter in there that I've been helping is suffering from wolves howling in many parts of the unit, which has stopped the bugling.  Plus the snow is making access more difficult.

Archery hunter that I was helping connected with a small (for the unit) 6x6 and I heard of another 5x5 killed.  Anyone else know of kills in the unit this year?
