Woo hoo! Update
« on: October 08, 2019, 04:47:44 PM »
The government closes down the main stem Columbia river sports fishing due to the lack of salmon and steelhead returns. Yet starting tomorrow October 9 they’re letting the kill nets in for four nights, hows that work. Oh yeah I forgot back door back slapping and money hungry politicians.  :twocents: :bash: :bash: :bash: :bash:

Found out the googerment changed their mine. They’ll be be no netting at this time on the columbia river.

Is this just for commercial ? I went down to Mosier a couple of weekends ago and saw floats (assuming nets) every where, evenly spaced and covering a wide path. Surprised anything could make it past if indeed they were nets.

Oh I would put money on them being nets and "NO FISH" make it through.
Same up here in the Snohomish river and Everett area.

Yeah just commercial. Which were supposed to be off main stem 2-3yrs ago. I guess contracts and laws don’t apply. 🤬🤬🤬

I saw boats netting just west of Longview on Monday the 7th...

At this point the numbers aren't big enough to really make a sizeable dent over 4 days.  The bulk of the fish are quite a ways upriver now.

That might be true. The fact that their on the main stem is the issue. We can’t pretend to want to protect a wild endangered fish. Then let these non selective grim reaper nets destroy everything they touch. Our salmon and steelhead endorsements were intended to replace the non selective gear. Frustrating  :twocents:

I would guess that they have met their escapement goals and therefore opened the fishery.  :dunno:

Don't assume that.  They did the same thing in MA7 this year, not enough fish so we are shut out the entire month of August - except they allowed nets on several occasions.

The commercial fleet is organized and funds lobbying, something we haven't figured out how to do yet.  It's pretty blatant, in the Big C, the predictions are still not great in the last few years but they threw nets back in and allowed barbed.  I fail to see how that isn't just a small handout to the sportsmen so they won't complain too much about the nets.  Neither action seems warranted on predicted or actual runs.

Talk about hand outs. I see what your saying Stein. I just wouldn’t call them hand outs. More like a kick to the berries.  😱😱😱😱😉🥃🇺🇸
